Darktooth
Just another cold and blustery day here in Central New York! I had to get the kids out of the house, and I wanted to get a fossil fix at the same time. I knew thw going fossil hunting with temps in the teens, was not going to happen. So I decided on the next best thing. Trip to the museum! Located in the Fingerlakes region of N.Y. I what I consider a hidden gem. The Paleontological Research Institute- Museum of the Earth, is a rather small but really nice museum. I found out about it many years ago when I first became a member of the Syracuse Gem &Mineral club. There is virtually no advertising for it. And its location is outside the city limits. It is home to the famous Hyde Park Mastodon that a family found in a pond in their backyard. It is 97 percent complete! I guess you can find cool things anywhere. I took plenty of pics, so I hope you will enjoy this virtual tour. I like Trilo-butts and I cannot lie.

I have noticed everytime I have been there that they don't really have anything in the way of sharkteeth or verts. I may have to do something about that. I like Trilo-butts and I cannot lie. Wrangellian
I'm sure their Paleozoic invert collection would cause me to lose enough moisture via drooling, but yes, if they want a good cross-section of flora/fauna, I'm sure they could use a few shark teeth if they don't have any yet. Jeffrey P
Thanks Dave for sharing your photos. I have yet to visit the Museum of the Earth though it has been strongly recommended. (I did go on one of their outings in 2013) You've given me more reason to visit. Looks like you and your boys had a great outing- an excellent idea for days when collecting is not an option. MarleysGh0st
I'm glad you enjoyed your visit to our museum, Darktooth. Thanks for the report! Did you happen to notice the new statue of the T. Rex, outside? That made me do a double-take one morning last month, when I noticed it had suddenly shown up next to the road!
Darktooth
@MarleysGh0st I didn't realize that was a T- rex. I didn't even see it on the way in and when I left I just caught it out of the corner of my eye as we past it. I like Trilo-butts and I cannot lie.
