I think we found this at the beach...don't remember.  Has been sitting on a shelf for some time.  Thanks!

its called a steinkern, its the internal mold of a fossil clam shell. Nice find!

I have a tan one from an Unknown locale, I like that black colour!

I agree - Bivalve steinkern. 

Something similar to Cucullaea sp.  or Arctica sp. 

 

Colloquially, they are called "deer hearts" or "turtle heads". ;) 

Neat fossil.
