In Situ Shark Teeth From the Mastodon Hunt

Sharks of SC

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone!

I had the foresight to take my camera with me on my hunt yesterday. Before you ask - no, I didn't get a ground shot of the mastodon tooth. To be completely honest, I didn't know what it was until I got home...I probably wouldn't have even picked it up except that I noticed some symmetry.

Anyway, I snapped a few shots of some decent shark teeth. Nothing too impressive, but steady finds all the same.

enjoy -

Nice. Have you tried screening that material or do you just surface hunt?

Hey Al Dente,

All of this material is dredge spoil concentrated on the land. The little beaches are sort of superficially sifting the material, which lays in a thin layer on top of soft mud. So, sifting wouldn't get me very far at this particular area.

The piles of spoil higher up, however, have yielded some great finds from sifting. It's slow work, but there's a lot to be found.

You were sarcastic, right? Those finds are incredible!

That little whale tooth is sweet, congrats:fistbump:

Every once in a great while it's not just a big rock down there!

I love seeing the pictures of the teeth like that! I try my best to do the same but enthusiasm gets the best of me at times!
