Is this antique store "fossil" really a fossil?

I purchased this in Woodbury Connecticut in a furniture antique store. I was told it was a fossil "millions" of years old. The dimensions are 17" wide x 4" tall x 1/2" thick. What you see on the back of the fossil is glue as it was attached to a frame and I have not attempted to remove the glue. I appreciate any insight as to what it is and age. Thank you.

It reminds me of the so called "pietra paesina" (word for word: "landscape rock"), known also as "florentine marble", though it's actually a limestone

Not a fossil, as others have said, but beautiful nonetheless.  I would be happy to have it in my collection, it's a great show piece.

Thank you to everyone for your responses. After visiting the above links from Supertramp, I also believe it is most definitely  "pietra paesina" as the other specimens appear as mine does. While I was hoping it was a fossil, I am just as excited to have it as its history is 50 million years old, rare, a great conversation piece and its Italian!

This is the magnificent art work that Mother Nature could give us in our ephemeral life. I could see our whole existence in one piece. Well done, Supertramp!
