This a boulder a friend found along the Waipara Gorge in North Canterbury, South Island, New Zealand. The rocks there can be as early as Cretaceous...any thoughts as to what it might be? I have more photos, but I'm not sure how to put them up...

Probably not penguin if it is Cretaceous... Though it would be great to find a cret penguin.  More likely mosasur, but it may be impossible to tell from the cross sections seen.  Bobby?

nice collection of bones but i dont beleive its penguin because of the way the bone is constructed ,penguin bones would have a hollow structure. more likley to be marine reptile maybe mosasaur from up near the ram padock road area of the waipara would be my guess.

Hi there

nice find!

Looks like some ribs and some sort of flat bone (scapula?) from a large marine vertebrate. I would guess Mosasaur if it is Cretaceous or Cetacean if this is Tertiary. It's hard to be diagnostic with some post cranial elements.

These bones would be too big even for the largest penguins.
