NC Beach find...what is it?

NOVA Sharktooth novice

I found this a week ago walking on Myrtle Beach. We were looking for sharks teeth, and found a few, but also found this. The shape, and slits underneath that to me look a little like  gills, make me think   it could be   a turtle head or maybe I need of American carving. Any thoughts?

This is an internal cast (steinkern) of a bivalve.
Possibly Cucullaea gigantea .

Colloquially known as deer hearts (deer heart clams) or "turtle heads" .:)

I agree with Tim on this one. And it's a cool specimen too! Another possibility is Glossus humanus, I'm just not sure the age is correct.

Cucullaea from the Cretaceous PeeDee formation. Also Myrtle Beach is in SC(South Carolina) not NC.

Oh wow! I have 2 of these that I found early one morning while hunting shark teeth with my husband at Myrtle Beach last year (2019). I’ve never met anyone who’s seen anything like it. I’ve always thought that they looked like some sort of prehistoric shark head, but I can also see where it resembles a turtle.

This one is quite a bit smaller and much more weathered and worn down. I was shocked to have found both of them within an hour and less than half a mile away from each other. I found the black one first and thought maybe it was some sort of fishing weight until I came across the other one.
