geojim
Hi, I'm studying some Upper Devonian conglomerates in SW New York (Rock City State Forest) with very interesting x-bedding and channel deposits, likely a high-energy macro-tidal environment. Rare bedding plane exposures have show some strange elongate structures (up to 12" long, replaced by hematite, fossil/organic or inorganic?) in close association with large clasts (2-3" ellipsoidal milky vein quartz); both parallel with bedding but with some linear alignment (possible transgressive lag deposit?). Any ideas on the photos below? Thanks for any input. - Jim

EMP
It has the look of well worn woody plant material. Better angles would help, though.
geojim
Thanks, as soon as the snow melts, I'll resume field work and get some more pics.
EMP
Yeah it is a well worn woody plant fragment. If I had to assign it a genus I'd go tentatively with Archeopteris sp.
