My Shark Tooth Collection

Sharks of SC

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I've been working to fill this antique machinist's tool box with my shark tooth collection for a little over a year, and it's finally shaping up nicely. Most of the teeth and fossils are self-collected and most of them are from the area around Charleston, SC.

Hopefully I'll need a larger cabinet a year from now.

Thanks for having a look!

Great collection--looks like the result of a large number of hours out in the field collecting.

Cheers.

Nice Collection! I have an old machinists tool box similar to yours that I got from my dad. Now I know what to do with it!

SOSC,

I have the the same case and its companion bottom part- found them about 25 years ago in an alley in Chicago. I also use them for fossil storage.

A very impressive collection. Congratulations. Nice to have them in a place where they're easily accessible. Looks like you will be needing a new cabinet before long. Not much room left in that one. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice collection and a great idea for re-using an old tool box.

But what is really disheartening is the fact that a tool box that was commonly used when I was in my 20's is now considered an antique; yikes!!!!!! :( :o :P

Oh my!!!  Awesome collection!  I'm curious, do you know what that vertebral body belongs to in your misc fossils pic?  (Top L corner of the pic).

Its some sort of odontocete vertebra. That specimen was collected in the Edisto River, so likely Oligocene in age. But as with any good river deposit, it could've easily washed out from a more recent layer and been redeposited.

If you don't mind me asking, how big is your biggest hemi? The ones in the drawer looked absolutely giant!
