Shark tooth from Jacksonville

I'm a noobie here, but recently moved to Jacksonville and we've become somewhat obsessed with hunting shark teeth. My wife found this tooth a few days ago and we're struggling to identify it. Could it be a megalodon?

Welcome to the Forum. :)

Not a Megalodon. There is no bourlette.

Also, it appears from the picture that there are no serrations - is that correct?

Megalodon would have serrations, as well.

Looks like it may be a Mako tooth.

Wait for some other opinions.

This is a great resource for Shark Tooth Identification.

  • 4 weeks later...

Mako-ish.  I think commonly called Straight Toothed Mako.  It's beautiful.  Where in Jacksonville did you find it?

In the area, you can try North Topsail beach.

Green Mill Run in Greenville, NC is not terribly far.  It's known for its bellemites, but I have seen some nice teeth from there.

I have not tried these areas personally, but I am hoping to get to some (or all!) next week, and I was just looking at Jacksonville on the map.
