Hi guys,

here is a stone that i picked up from a landscaping store. This was a part of a flag stone tile they sold for outdoor garden construction.  So i have no idea where it was from.  But the lacy image looked like a row of plants.  Most likely from southwest of United States.

+1 for Dendrites.

They are often mistaken for plant fossils.

Hi Kay,

Unfortunately these are not plant fossils. To me these look like a dendritic form of Manganese Oxide, which sometimes forms on weathered iron or manganese rich rocks. The way to tell dendrites apart from plants is that a fern fossil will look like a fern, where as dendrites tend to be a lot narrower, clumped together, and almost always perfectly straight. Also, most plant fossils don't exhibit as much branching as dendrites do.

Thank you guys.  This is very pretty pattern anyway. Dentrites, i will look it up and learn more about it.
