possible fish or amphibian part

I collected this after the grass burned, on a hilltop in NW Greenwood County, KS. I've not seen this before, but the chert has such detailed fossils that I expect someone will recognize this.

Except for a couple of shark teeth (cladodus), I've never found a fish part. This reminds me of gills.

Petalodus tooth, methinks!

Paleozoic shark!  Possibly Petalodus allegheniensis.

Awesome find. :)

That is an awesome find!!  You should look that area over closer.  There could be more.

Much more rare than the Cretaceous teeth here in Kansas.

What a lovely tooth! I've never seen one preserved like that before, that is fascinating.

deutcheben, thank you.

It was a complete surprise to find this and the chert preserves it's details so well that I find myself hunting in the chert beds a lot.
