Welcome to the forum :)

This certainly looks like a fish plate. We have some fish experts here who can provide you with a precise ID. If you could provide some information on the location where it was found, and perhaps a few more pictures, that will certainly help.

As per the forum rules, we do not appraise the monetary value of fossils ;)

Thank you! Just trying to get a general idea. I defer to you guys because you have so much more knowledge than I do. If no one can give me just a general idea of it's value can someone tell me if it is valuable at all? I only ask because I love it.  If someone could identify what it is then I suppose I could research the value? Thanks again:-)

Welcome to the Forum. :)

This is a Rhacolepis buccalis from the Cretaceous of Brazil.

Either the Santana or Crato formation. These fish are no longer exported from Brazil, by law.

The Forum does not appraise value as it is something that really cannot be reasonably done via pictures.

Value may increase or decrease, comparable with completeness, size, detail and skill of preparation..

Check auction sites for comparable pieces. ;)

Kind of reminds me of fossil fish from Brazil, but without clearer photos and size reference, it will be difficult to identify it further. Of course, location information is best, but I'm assuming you don't have it? Most fossils cannot be affirmatively identified concerning rarity or specific identify without the location info unless it comes from one of those few localities that just have a signature look to their fossils (such as fish from Brazil and trilobites from Morocco).

THANK YOU ALL! I found it at an antique store like 25 years ago and haggled for it and bought it for #15.00 :-) I'm thinking it was a decent purchase. Again, thank you all!

Well, being that you can no longer export these beauties out of Brazil and thus fresh specimens are therefore no longer available to the general public, you may want to hold onto this. It looks to be a real nice example. Can you by chance take a picture slightly further back so we can see the entire plate?

Hi

if you do decide to sell it on a popular auction site. Take some good photos because that is the difference between the buyer getting a steal and you getting a great price for it. Better the photo the better chance of a good sale. Bobby

I'll take another pic now. I still can't believe I got it for almost nothing so many years ago at an antique store in St. Petersburg, Fl. Awesome! I really appreciate the feedback and advice!

Can you take a picture from directly above the fish?

Oblique angles aren't usually the best for viewing fossils. ;)

It's not complete - missing the tail and no evidence of fins, that I can see.

That seems to be fairly common with these, though.

Thanks. Will do later. Wasn't dying to sell it or my 6 1/2 inch near perfect Megaladon tooth. Just trying to get some idea if this one was valuable at all? I know my tooth is. It's literally perfect! Thank you for all of the advice. You are awesome:-)
