I'll be heading up to Syracuse this weekend for the Science Olympiad  Middle School State finals. That means I'll be able to hunt Sunday anywhere in the area from Syracuse south. Who wants to join? The plan is to hit one or more of the quarries about an hour south of Syracuse, but I could be convinced to head towards Herkimer, Little Falls, or one of the Catskill quarries instead.

Hi Scylla I was thinking about taking the boys to either sangerfield or Deep Springs on Sunday. The snow has melted and the weather is supposed to be nice.

That would be great! I'll only have one of my boys with me this time, but we've always done well at Deep Springs. I'll PM my # so we can co-ordinate.

I'm planning to collect at Morrisville this Monday. Will likely stop in at DSR also to check it out. Hope you guys do well. Love to see what you find there.

I'm spending the week in NY starting Monday for vacation. I plan on hitting as many places as I can. I might be able to convince my kids to go collecting this weekend.....I was just at sangerfield two days ago. Good luck!

I didn't find much, but the few I did find I'm going to be prepping this coming week. I will be collecting NY a good portion of next week.

Hi Frank, yes this is the same trip. I went last year for my first time with Jeff and the crew and it was a great time. Look forward to meeting you.

Well, we certainly had a great day at Deep Springs! Absolutely beautiful weather and great company and everybody got some decent finds! My boys Dylan and Devin and I met Gus and his son Grant at their hotel at 8am. We drove a little over an hour to get to the site, driving through some gorgeous country roads. While we did see some unmelted snow on the way there, there wasn't any at the site.  I won't bore with all the details but I think we all did pretty good. Everyone found atleast partial trilos, bivalves, brachiopods and there where sparce gastropods. I myself found two small complete Eldregeops rana, a partial and assorted cephalon s and pygidiums of both Eldregeops and Greenops boothi. One of my best finds of the day was a Goniate with suture lines about 3in around. I am glad Gus got a picture of it because I got a little willy nilly of where I placed it and left without it! And a few other things. Such is life. Another favorite that did make it home, was a very nice Glass sponge, the best I have found. The boys did very well to I haven't even had a chance to go through all the stuff they brought back. I know a lot needs to be cleaned up. I will post pics as soon as possible. I wanted to let Gus and Grant know that we had a great time with them. It was a pleasure to spend the day with them and get to know them. Also thank-you for your generosity. Gus gave us all a piece of jade he had gotten in California. Very nice stuff! I hope Gus will fill you in on his and Grant's finds when he gets a chance. He had a 6 hour drive back! Yikes I know how that feels!  Anyways I will post some pics shortly but it will take a couple days to get it all.

Here's some trilos.

1. Eldregeops cephalons

2. Greenops partial body with cephalon

3. Small Eldregeops wth head and tail hidden. Look close you can see an eye peeking out.

4&5 Smll Eldregeops with tail curved under.
