I am a product if this environment (and the New Mexico desert, of course) and this is my way to try and pay the debt of gratitude I owe this Forum and it's many members who set the example for me. I am thankful for this platform to share what is possible. :)

Life started in the ocean. And so did my interest in fossils;).

Thank you! Sharing this is the least I can do and a pleasure to do so. One of my coolest realizations was that regardless of professional or amateur (the fossils don't care one way or the other :P), there is science to be had if you go look for it! :)

Congratulations on another "scientific first", Mike.  This really shows the importance of having someone who is passionate, observant, knowledgeable, and local to be the "eyes on the ground" for paleontology.  The "pros" are often in the field for a relatively short period of time, or at least each patch of ground gets looked at by a "pro" only at rare intervals, so though much is seen much may also be missed.  It's the avocational paleontologist who can check out the same area over a long period of time, and so catch the rare gems that show themselves only rarely.

...I found a strange, incomplete phragmacone of an Ammonite that I did not recognize.

I tucked it away and have been researching what it could be since then. I had recently discovered it's genus and am currently working with Spencer Lucas to label its species...

This place is inspirational. When I joined all those years ago, I really had no clue the impact it would have on me.  TFF opened my eyes to the possibilities of amateurs making a difference in the field of paleontology...for that, I will always be grateful. I just hope that sharing my experience here can be just as eye opening to someone else down the line.

Well done my friend. I also just going say that  @PFOOLEY is one of my favourite photographers of all. Documents with beautiful photos of his finds, the landscape, the flora  and the adventures of his lovely Daughter and her dog. I am still waiting for his coffee table book to come out. :thumbsu:
