I re-discovered this topic recently.  It truly is a fantastic find.

I believe that this trilobite needs to be recognized for the rare and beautiful fossil it is.

I hereby award (albeit belatedly :blush:) the Golden Drool Bucket to Minnbuckeye (Mike) for this amazing find!

Yes this was an amazing find. But goes to show a few things:

1. Even amateur collectors can find amazing fossils. So all of you newbies, there are chances for you to stumble, as I did, onto a fabulous find. Keep looking!! I was a newbie to the fossil world then, and probably still am!

2. If you find something out of the ordinary, no matter how seemingly insignificant it is, post a picture of it on TFF before putting in in the rubbish pile. Look at my pre prep picture. I could not believe what this trilobite preserved upside down looked like after it's prep.  The forum members, with all of their expertise, deserve significant credit for letting me present to you this trilobite.

3. This brings me to my final point. I was advised to have this professionally prepped. HEED the advise to do so, if someone suggests it. Again, look at the before and after. If I just kept this trilobite as found, I would have never realized what was buried  in this rock and never had the enjoyment from this find that I have had.

Thanks for all of the warm comments and thank you TFF for recognizing this trilobite with it's award!!!!

In closing, much thanks goes out to the prep facility. A spectacular finished project. To turn this bug upside down and prep it out is amazing. Everyone wants to know who did the prepping. Let me say, I had a tour of the facility and it was unbelievable!!!! To see the super high quality specimens lining their shelves waiting to be prepped stunned me. Then to think my lowly trilobite got to take it's spot amongst these treasures. Little did I know what I was presenting to them.

 Alright, EVERYONE wants to know who did the prep? @isotelus,s son. They have a shop in the Cincinnati area, just south of town. Thanks again, Dan.

@minnbuckeye

Mike,

Any chance of a straight down shot from above the trilobite?

Thanks Tim! When I heard he wasnt able to enter it into the FOTM contest because of a late picture I was quite disappointed as this specimen is just superb and amazing. Its definitely worthy of the coveted GDB award!

I concur. :)

And a GDB is rarer than a FotM.  ;)

Do you mind telling us what it cost to get something like that prepped?  Just a ballpark number is fine.  That looks amazing.

@Ramo, I am not sure it is wise to put the price out there. A big discount was likely given to me and I do not want to create the image that this facility does great work cheaply. They could have charged me 5x what they did and I would have been happy!

Giving a ball park estimate via PM is probably OK. :)

Man, just now seeing this guy. What a killer piece. I could only dream of finding something like this, and Ben did a crazy good job of prepping it. I would not have dared to take that task on myself. That clan sure know their way around bugs! Kudos to everyone involved in this beauty!
