Dan Walsh
I am digging out an unfinished portion of my basement in central Nebraska I found this bone about 4 feet down in a chalky layer. the bone is about 3 1/2 inches long. I have looked on many websites but can't find anything even similar. Here are 4 views The last one is a view inside where the bone is broken. GeschWhat
Welcome to the forum! I am super jealous! How great is it that you can dig for bones in your basement? Sorry, I can't help with ID, but I'm sure someone will be along who can. PalaeoArt
My Initial impression is that this is a rib head. Certainly looks like the top of a rib. Others on the forum maybe able to offer some thoughts on what from.

Micah
What part of Nebraska are you in/any idea what time period that layer in your basement is from? I'd say my initial impression was rib head? But it also somewhat resembles the base of an antler and Nebraska had quite a few species of deer and pronghorns, could you take a few pictures of the unbroken end from a couple angles? Dan Walsh
Micah, I took several more pictures. Hope they help! I have been looking at skeletons all over the internet, but don't see anything comparable. Could anyone show a picture of this rib head that has been mentioned? I live in the very center of Nebraska, right on the edge of the sandhills. The dirt I am digging is all clay except for this white stuff that is mixed in. Rockwood
Not a bone man, but I have a few antlers around and I don't see this being one now.
Dan Walsh
Haven't been able to find any pictures of antlers anywhere close to this. I don't know what a rib head is, anyone have a picture?
Micah
Definitely part of a rib (rib head just means the part that connects to the spine) possibly from a bison. Lol the best images I could find were on eBay, so if you want to compare more closely look there.
