Carl
Don't yet know my mammal podials. Found this beauty in the Peace River in Florida last Friday. Anyone know what it is?https://youtu.be/wnG4DzQYYU8
Harry Pristis
It appears to be a deer cubonavicular, Carl. 6 http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest

Carl
Hmmmmm... I'm taking a second look now and I'm less convinced. The cubonaviculars I see online have a clear double depression on the deeper articular surface but mine has a single deep crater. Might it be a camel or horse? Or maybe a wrist bone rather than ankle?

Post a still image or two here, Carl, and we'll get to the bottom of the mystery. http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest

Harry Pristis
Good images, Carl! The bone is a camelid navicular. Sorry for the false start . . . I confess, I struggled with the original video. 5 http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest

Harry Pristis
Hmmm. That bone is seriously worn; but, I think it's identifiable as a camelid fibula. 1 http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest

Shellseeker
I believe so, Harry identified the same bone for me last June and I was also pleased that it was camel, even though small 1 The White Queen ".... in her youth she could believe "six impossible things before breakfast"

This is the distal remnant of a longer fibula with the "spike" being the last suggestion of a longer shaft. http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest
