Pretty good day at Purse State Park

Great finds, the tooth on the top left is awesome.  Your snake is not a copperhead, it looks like an eastern hog-nosed snake to me.

Bulldozers and dirt Bulldozers and dirt
behind the trailer, my desert
Them red clay piles are heaven on earth
I get my rocks off, bulldozers and dirt

Nice finds.  Beautiful hognose snake, too (doing what hog nose snakes do best - *acting* tough :))

I thought he was a weird color for a copperhead. I had never seen one before, and with the way his head was shaped he looked like a copperhead. I just researched them and wish I had known what he was at the time they seem like they would be fun to watch.

Hognose snakes do their very best to look like other vipers. They have fangs, but the fangs point backwards into their mouths to pop inflated toads before swallowing them. They have hoods like cobras and will feign strikes with closed mouths. If that doesn't work, they pretend to have convulsions, roll over and play dead.  If you turn them over, they roll back and return to the death pose. Cute, but not too bright!

I refuse to give up my childish wonder at the world.

Really nice finds, including the hog-nose snake. Unfortunately they do resemble copperheads. A friend of mine once told me of a copperhead that was killed on her property. I went to examine it and sadly it turned out to be a hog-nose. By the way, that Otodus and the ray plate are nothing to sneeze at. Congratulations.

Nice finds. Looks like he's guarding the gastropods. Ever take any of those home with you?

Would you like me to bring you one?
