willtexas07
Any help would be very appreciated on this vertebra found in the Brazos River in Texas. Many thanks for looking and replying!

mkspsa
Pretty sure its a bison (or cow, they can sometimes be hard to tell apart). Hopefully the degree of mineralization gives you a clue. There is a book devoted to the topic of comparing Bos to Bison. A Guide to the Identification of Postcranial Bones of Bos taurus and Bison bison, Darlene McCuaig Balkwill & Stephen L. Cumbaa. Canadian Museum of Nature, Syllogeus No. 71. Ottawa 1992.
willtexas07
Thanks a ton Mkspsa! That pretty much confirms my thinking. It is quite mineralized with only spongy material showing on spots knocked off in river tumbling. I will check the book you so kindly referenced. Thanks again!
