Hi all, I bought this on Sunday thinking this might be petrified wood, can anyone confirm if that is the case? its quite distinctive so maybe someone knows a little more about it?

I would feel fairly comfortable in thinking that this is indeed a piece of petrified wood. By the looks of it, it has been polished to bring out some of the features.

Excellent thank you! It just looked so different to the other piece i have i wasn't sure. Will make a little free standing sign to put next to it on display.

Fully agree with not/ Tony's assessment on this piece, it absolutely screams Arizona's Petrified Forest. Nice piece.

Yes, I agree.  The main petrified wood there is Araucarioxylon arizonicum.  Here is a good reference:
