Dwain
I would love to know what's in this oyster shell? Black pearl?
Darktooth
Welcome to the forum! I don't know for sure if it is a pearl but it does look like it could be. Could you try to take a clearer pic? And how big is this? I like Trilo-butts and I cannot lie.

ynot
When a foreign object (like sand) gets inside of the shell the oyster will layer it's nacre around the object to reduce the irritant. The resulting pearl can attach to the inside if the shell. I think it is what You have found. Tony Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." Dwain
So what would be recommended that I do with it? Take off the nacre? Is there someone to take it to? This is very neat. Just a shell from eating oysters one night and noticed the oddness. Have had it about a year.
Darktooth
That is pretty cool! And it looks to be decent size. Take it to a jeweler and see what they say. I like Trilo-butts and I cannot lie.
Coco
It is an attractive specimen. If it belonged to me, I would touch nothing. One day I found a big pearl by eating an oyster, I kept the hollow valve and the pearl inside. Yvie
You can tell a real pearl from a man-made by gently rubbing it against your own real teeth, not implants or veneers and it will feel gritty, the fake ones feel smooth. There are also other way to differentiate.
