Need help in identification!!

Thanks for accepting me to the forum!! My husband and I love collecting rocks and recently moved to the Pacific Northwest. We found 2 rocks on our property that look like fossilized skin, but haven't been able to find any information on what they may be. They are both about 2x4". One is imbedded in basaltic type rock which is common on the islands. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It looks like a chaetetid demosponge , to me.
