I found this long finger like rock while hiking in NJ can anyone help determine what it is?

Around 1.5-2 inches

Looks like a nodule or concretion. Was this found in a stream?

Yes

I figured that was the case. Big brook and other nearby streams are loaded with these concretion/nodules. They fool people often because of their suggestive shapes. You will be fooled many more times, after a while you will ignore them.

Thanks, just a bit disappointed that I didn't have something.

Some concretions and nodules contain fossils. I have never heard of that being the case for your locale  but I quess it doesn't hurt to try.

When I first went to Big Brook these things drove me crazy because there are so many and they do look like "something". Talk to anyone who has hunted there and chances are they will tell you the same.

Yea, looks like I fell for the trick too.
