Megan
I found this in a gorge near a Wass go Lake New York. The wing-like shape is composed of quartz - we find lots of horn coral in this area so wasn't sure if this could also be an oblique section through some type of coral. ynot
Welcome to TFF !Looks like the inside of a clam shell. 2 Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." My Fossil collection - My Mineral collection My favorite thread on TFF.
Miocene_Mason
I agree “...whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been and are being evolved.” ~ Charles Darwin Happy hunting, Mason
TqB
I think it's the inside of a brachiopod, showing a vertical section through the spiral brachidium (the calcite support for the soft lophophore). Tarquin
Rockwood
I think the solution is that it is a brachiopod as TqB suggests that has a more rounded shape and is sectioned 90' to it's commissure making it's profile more that of a clam.
Taogan
I'm with the brachiopod solution. I have a few that have been eroded in a similar way and look almost identical.
