Well  I just couldn't keep away from this site early Wednesday morning around 5 AM I left for NY ...Here are a few other items I found, The first one I need a confirmation on which one it is. and the second one I think is a Goniatite ?????and I split it in half and I need to try to remove the portion the stuck to the other half...it looks to be all there...I hope. I think it will make a nice display piece if all works out. I have a few other pieces such as trilobites I need to take pictures of.

First one 59275c94a0f62_2017-05-2518_24_45.thumb.jpg.8b337bdb8c25a184367a4787ebac8a39.jpg

And here is the ??? Goniatite ???

Hi Tony,

Glad you got up there again and had more success. Those are Grammysia and Grammysioidea bivalves and your goniatite is indeed a goniatite. Looks like pyrite preservation. Really nice specimens. Congrats.

Tony, Thanks for posting the updated goniatite fossil after you prepped it a bit. It certainly is looking better and better.

Dom, very cool finds- Congratulations! Deep Springs Road is my favorite site for collecting Greenops trilobites. Looks like you found some good ones. That bivalve you posted is Orthonota undulata, the same species as the one I posted on the first page of the report, except yours the shell is open. Almost every cephalopod I've found at Deep Springs Road the shell was crushed. Still a very nice specimen.

Diane- can't wait to see your finds-especially the Pleurodictyum- another new species for the site.

HI Tony,

Nice find and congratulations. That is a fossil plant (twig). It probably lacks sufficient diagnostic features to ID it. Plants remains are fairly common at DSR. Recall the section of lycopod bark that Tim's wife found. Although Deep Springs Road is a marine site, the Catskill Delta was just east of here and quite a bit of plant material washed into the rivers and out to sea. I've seen plant remains at all of the Madison County sites.

Time for a few samples from my collection! :D

Here's the overview. I'll admit, for the individual pictures I've just cropped pieces out of (one of several variations of) this image. Hey, it was late last night that I did my photography, and my camera wasn't going to focus much closer, so we have what we get:

I'll post the IDs (as best I can) in the next post (or several; however many it takes!).

Edited to add: For scale, the long side of the book is 10 inches.

First, the bivalves. I think this top one is Paleonielo emarginata, the lower I can't see the margin of so I'm not prepared to offer an ID.

Grammysioidea sp. at upper right, an unknown at left, Paleonielo constricta at bottom:

A couple more Grammysioidea pieces:

Two nice Modiomorpha sp.

Some brachiopods next. Two Rhipidomella at top, Athyris spiriferoides at middle and bottom left, Tropidoleptus carinatus at bottom right.

An assortment of fossils. Two gastropods, probably both Glyptomaria at top, an unidentified bivalve at top right (possibly Paleonielo constricta), an Ambocoelia umbonata brachiopod at left, four hyolithids (Hallotheca aclis) in the middle, and another bivalve (possibly Nuculoidea corbuliformis) at bottom right:

That's really nice. I find a lot of those over in Gilboa NY but sadly there just isn't a way to ID them. I find it frustrating and that why I am still on the lookout for a piece of "foliage" that I can ID. If you ever find a branch with a discernible crosshatch pattern of little diamonds it could be Haskinsia.

There are pictures here.

Dom,

Nice finds!

That Greeonps  looks like it might be a complete enrolled or partially enrolled specimen.

And what you are calling a gastropod is actually a goniatite. Nice one, too.

Thanks for showing them.
