I find it frustrating and that why I am still on the lookout for a piece of "foliage" that I can ID. If you ever find a branch with a discernible crosshatch pattern of little diamonds it could be Haskinsia.

Thank you very much......In the one photo you mentioned it was a root and I did come across a few things that looked like that and thinking it was just the shape of the rock ..I tossed it.....There is so much to learn about this stuff.
