This tooth came out of the mud shattered and I reassembled the pieces I had.  It was found in Florida's Peace River in a mix of miocene and pleistocene material.  It measures approx.  2.25" wide x 2.25" long x 3/8" thick.

Great find and nice work piecing it back together: )

Every once in a great while it's not just a big rock down there!

That's a great job of reassembly, Miatria! Nice find.  Hmmm, your find has made me want to re-examine a piece that I have...

I too was thinking plate from a mammoth but it didn't look quite right. It wasn't till I saw the growth lines (parallel to the chewing surface) that the slothy nature of this tooth was revealed. Never seen a rear molar from a sloth before--quite a nice find! Great job piecing this puzzle back together and kudos on the excellent photography. I do so enjoy days when I learn something new on this forum.

Cheers.
