Grimlock
Greetings to all. I found this little mammal jaw fragment last week and I have yet to identify it. I have done some research and haven't found anything that matches it, thus far. Small mammals are definitely not my area of experience (assuming I have any at all). So, I decided opt for the lazier option and let those with more knowledge do the work for me Any help would be greatly appreciated. Let me say that the pics might not be the greatest, so I apologize beforehand. The camera on my phone can only do so much with the little stuff. Needless to say, it was found in a local creek in Southwest Florida close to where I live and the dime was added for scale. Thanks!
Fruitbat
Any chance of getting a decent view of the occlusal (chewing) surface of the teeth? -Joe Illigitimati non carborundum Fruitbat's PDF Library
*THEO*
I think the size is similar to Skunk jaw but the canine tooth looks more fat than those that I have seen.

I do not believe that this jaw fragment has a "canine". Could use a better photo The White Queen ".... in her youth she could believe "six impossible things before breakfast"
Grimlock
I tried getting some pics of the occlusal surface, but they really didn't come out because its so small. Give me a few and I'll try to get something decent. Jack, the one tooth does look like a canine to me, but you could be right and it may not be one. Grimlock
I got some more pics using my wife's new phone and they came out a lot better. So, hopefully these will help in the id. Again, thanks for any input.
Shellseeker
Dan, Absolutely great photos. It is definitely not the 1st time, but I am flat wrong again. That is definitely a canine tooth or tusk sticking out the front, It almost seems like rodent -- rat, muskrat, beaver, capybara, etc incisors but it does not quite fit. I gues sin this case I'll wait for others to input The White Queen ".... in her youth she could believe "six impossible things before breakfast"
