Rock-loving friend headed to Albuquerque

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

A colleague of mine is headed to Albuquerque sometime near the end of June for IB training (she's a teacher like me), and she has decided to stay on for the weekend after her training session is over in order to do a little hiking with her husband (who will be heading down to meet her for the weekend).  She loves rocks and fossils, so she was hoping to do a little collecting while she's there.  Are there any easily-accessible sites that she would be able to collect from?

Thanks!

Monica

Sandia mountains have a thick limestone layer that dates to the mississippian.

It is very fossiliferous and a wonderful hiking area, with great views of Albuquerque 5000 feet below the peaks.
