Kane
Welcome to the forum. I think you have either a geode or a nodule, but sadly not a fossil. You are correct that some fossils will present crystals as part of the fossilization/mineralization process. When it comes to egg fossils, there are ways to tell by texture and shape (and they do not always resemble eggs as we know them!). Do you know the geology of your area? Fossildude19
Welcome to the Forum. I agree with Kane, ... either a nodule or concretion. No thin eggshell - but rather a thick rind - the concentric layers are typical of concretions. abyssunder
I agree. It's a pseudofossil. Nice examples from Indiana are presented here . 1 " We are not separate and independent entities, but like links in a chain, and we could not by any means be what we are without those who went before us and showed us the way. Miocene_Mason
Yeah I have found tons of these things in Devonian deposits here in Maryland. 1 “...whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been and are being evolved.” ~ Charles Darwin Happy hunting, Mason

Ludwigia
That looks like another concretion, this time perhaps a septarian Sorry, no clam. 3 Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/
Miocene_Mason
@Ludwigia I think has got it right. It looks cool though, and septarians are sought after by some collectors. 1 “...whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been and are being evolved.” ~ Charles Darwin Happy hunting, Mason

Miocene_Mason
Yup, that's a beautiful sectarian nodule, it could be really nice polished up. 1 “...whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been and are being evolved.” ~ Charles Darwin Happy hunting, Mason
