Georgia Cambrian Bug Hunt Part 2

Recommended Posts

After leaving Sanibel Island, I decided again, to make a quick stop along the Conasauga River in Murray County, Georgia to collect some Upper Cambrian trilobites. For more pics and info see my post from 5-22-17 titled Georgia Cambrian Bug Hunt.

Below are a couple pics of some of the fossils I found in an hours time of searching.

Thanks- it is a nice place to collect, easy access and there are a lot of trilobites to be found- the only drawback is that there really is only enough room for 1 car to park.

That must be one rich spot to produce so many trilobites in just an hour. Congratulations.

@Fossildude19 , @jewelonly , @Jeffrey P , the pics that I posted were only of those, I found about 30 in that timeframe. This area is very productive and I brought out more material to split once I get home. Can't wait to visit it again next year.

Nice Georgia Bugs. I didn't realize the Cambrian was so productive there.

Very nice bugs from a location we don't see very often!

Yes, and the area that I was working was only about 3' wide and 1' thick. It is a nice place to stop if you have the time.

Imagine what it would be like if it were a more extensive exposure, like the places in Utah!

FYI- the place is bigger than what I described, but I was only working a small section of it- below is a pic of the area.IMG_3669.thumb.PNG.3b3c4a5449a3caf947a7fffdd2b6c467.PNG

Still doesn't look very big!

It is not, I just did not want people to think that the small area that I was working, was the whole exposure.

I live maybe 30 minutes from the Conasauga and ride my bike through Murray county all the time.  Would love to put a few of those in the collection.  Any chance you could PM me some details and advice on splitting the rocks?

I'm but a lowly picker upper of sharks teeth and other beach fossils, but always looking to expand my horizons.  Especially with this being so close to home.
