hedi
Hello, I found a couple of pretty little shark teeth and belemnites on my first trip to Big Brook,NJ, but I have no idea what these objects are. On the rounded one perhaps a vertebra? The darker object perhaps a bone fragment? Appreciate any help and information. Thank you!
Fossildude19
Hello, and Welcome to the Forum. Your first item looks like a concretion - very common at the Brooks. Your second item is a piece of Ghost shrimp claw. hedi
I also found a piece of coral and now with further research it seems perhaps a little confusing because some say it's from a glacial flow in and earlier, not Cretaceous. About the size of a quarter. Same place.
Fossildude19
I agree - most likely a paleozoic coral, glacially brought in from elsewhere. Kane
Just now, hedi said: I also found a piece of coral and now with further research it seems perhaps a little confusing because some say it's from a glacial flow in and earlier, not Cretaceous. About the size of a quarter. Same place. That is definitely possible. They are known as "glacial erratics" if memory serves correctly. ...How to Philosophize with a Hammer
njfossilhunter
I agree with both Kane and fossildude19 ...I have been hunting the NJ brooks for 20 years and have found coral in the past in these brooks that was brought down from glacial melts some 10 to 15 miles north of the brooks. Here is a map show the areas that was covered with ice. PS.....Welcome to the forum..... 4 TonyThe Brooks Are Like A Box Of Chocolates,,,, You Never Know What You'll Find.
