Can I start my own photo gallery of some of my finds?

How can I upload photos into my own gallery for others to see?

This photo is some fossilized leaves found locally in our mountain area. I do not know period or family etc.

Would love any feedback as I am new to this site as of today.

Thank you,

Kim

Welcome to the Forum. :)

Gallery creation is a delayed permission. After a small number of substantive posts, you will get the required permission.

This was put into place to stop commercial sellers from clogging up our gallery with their sale fossils.

Unfortunately, I am not seeing any leaf fossils in the picture you posted.

Wait for some other opinions, though.

Regards,

Not seeing any leaf fossil here, either.:headscratch:

Looks geologic to me. Google "fossil leaf" on image search to give you a sense of what fossilized leaves tend to look like. :)

I'm not seeing any veination patterns or any margin  - fossil leaves can usually be found as impressions in shales , limestones, and in mudstones.

This looks like quartzite or agate of some sort. Not the best for preserving fossil leaves.

There are several negative images also. I know it is very strange that it is so quartz oriented....

Sorry, but I still see nothing fossiliferous about this rock. :(

Thank you for addressing this topic. I appreciate your time! After doing some research I believe it to be a form of chert. Some green chert nodules inside the yellow chert. I definitely let my mind see what I believed it to be.

Thanks,

Kim

Hey Kim, nature has always fooled us into thinking (and often convincing us) in seeing things that aren't actually there. It's called pareidolia. It's pretty common in all walks of life and fossils are no exception. Happens to me regularly. ;) however if you suspect something may be a fossil always bring it back with you and ask here. Better to bring a rock home than to leave a potential fossil behind ;)
