You think so, Dale?

I'm not seeing the ribbing or nodes that one would expect on Calamites:unsure: :headscratch:

I found a reference to this site (a geocache) that refers to them:

"The fossil forest was revealed during the construction of the 4-lane highway between Saint John and Sussex. Norton is trying to find a way to turn it into a tourist site. Most of the fossils are Lepidodendron trees."

If they are Lepidodendron, they are heavily decorticated.

They aren't pith casts. They are external molds. Here are the clearest nodes.

The big piece of tree is about 2 ft wide(dark brown color) Bottom right corner

Same cliff as above picture

Sigillaria all I would say. The "big piece" being from lower, and deeper on the trunk. The outer layers are sloughed off as the trunk expands, and it expands the most there.

Wow. That is absolutely spectacular. You can even see the fossil trees growing out of the top of the cliff :D
