Rayr77
Is this a fossil? I found it on a beach a few years ago, I thought it might be a fossil but I don't know anything about them so wasn't sure.

Fossildude19
I agree it is a cone, but the darker spots look like they are painted on. A sharper close up picture might help to clarify the matter. JohnBrewer
Can we have a better photo with a ruler? Did you find it exactly as in the image? Which beach in the UK did you find it? Is the 'white stuff' on the surface on top of the stone? I'm thinking geological here, possibly dendritic. John Map of UK fossil sites
RJB
Does look very 'cone-ish' but certainly not sure? RB
Rayr77
I found it on the beach beside the crimdon dene caravan park near Hartlepool. I haven't done anything to the stone, it is as I found it. Thank you for the replies.

fossilized6s
I thought cone as well, but two in the same stone??? It looks like the mystery cone clone goes through the stone as a rugose would. Can we please get a pic from the other side? ~Charlie~ "There are those that look at things the way they are, and ask why.....i dream of things that never were, and ask why not?" ~RFK ->Get your Mosasaur print ->How to spot a fake Trilobite ->How to identify a CONCRETION from a DINOSAUR EGG

Just the siderite encasing it has worn down in different places.
