fifbrindacier
You're right, Coco, i indicated the place and the age in the tags but not its size : 8 cm of length, 7 cm of width. I also precise that the layer is Maestritchian, near the KT limit. "On ne voit bien que par le coeur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux." Coco
I am wrong or you have already posted a subject to identify a sea urchin which came from the same place more or less one year ago ? I don't know the fauna of Bidard and I can't thus help you... fifbrindacier
Yes i had, but i need confirmation or infirmation. According to http://paleotheque.fr, the site of @caterpillar, it must be a bouillei. 1 "On ne voit bien que par le coeur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux." caterpillar
If you want to confirm the name of the species you must clean the breastplate. The species depends of the organization of the plates You can see on my website http://www.paleotheque.fr/echinodermes/fiche_genre.php?genre=Stegaster http://www.paleotheque.fr

I will use water and a brush to put off the marl and i hope it won't break. "On ne voit bien que par le coeur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux." caterpillar
The best for this echinoid is KOH, but you can brush with vinegar http://www.paleotheque.fr
abyssunder
Here is the older topic with Stegaster : " We are not separate and independent entities, but like links in a chain, and we could not by any means be what we are without those who went before us and showed us the way. Monica
12 hours ago, fifbrindacier said: What is KOH ? Hi there! I'm assuming potassium hydroxide. I'm just going by the chemical formula - "K" is the chemical symbol for "potassium", and "OH" is the chemical symbol for the polyatomic ion "hydroxide". It's a strongly basic/alkaline compound, and it typically comes in flakes or pellets (that's how we get it for our classroom experiments). I don't know if/how you can get it for household applications... I hope that all is well in France! Monica
fifbrindacier
Thanks @Monica, i think i have somein pellets in my garage, if the brushing with vinegar i attented today (i couldn't wait for the end of my holidays), i'll try it. I managed to put off the bit of marl but, as i expected, it broke, so i glued it back, here is the result for the moment : "On ne voit bien que par le coeur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux."
