Hi guys.

 

just introduced myself on the board.

 

here is a photo of my first fossil.

 

the start of my new collection :)

That is a nice plate of Knightia eocaena from the Green River Formation, despite the painted on fins. :) 

Also - as you posted it, it is upside down. ;) 

Usually they are displayed like this, ... unless you like it with them floating belly up. :P 

That would be appropriate, anyways. :D

Helloand welcome to the forum. To answer your question, yes. Its more common than one might think. Its no big deal. Great looking plate by the way. A heads up though...fossil collecting is highly addictive:trilowalk:

Hey Andrewc, the first thing I noticed also were the painted on fins, and yes, quite common.   But still much nicer than my first ever fossil.   If you collect fossils for years you need this very first fossil to look at some day and realize it was just a  beginning.  Good luck
