Nick T
We found this at Willwood formation Wy. Looks like a jaw bone but not sure what from. There is a layer of rock around the bone. Hopefully someone recognizes it. Thanks. Part of a jaw bone

ynot
Sorry but I do not see any bone here. The pictures are hard to make out, so I may be wrong, but it may be a fragment of a single tooth (?). 1 Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." izak_
I see three very worn mammalian teeth in a red matrix - not the original bone. I could be wrong. As ynot said, brighter, sharper pics will help. Edit: In the third picture you can see a black surface so that is probably the side of the jaw. Definitely a jaw. With brighter pics, someone like @Harry Pristis could be able to ID

Nick T
It's hard to tell because the whole thing is covered in rock. But you can see the bone in this picture where the rock is broken and tooth on top. It looks like at one time there where 3 teeth. Hopefully these pictures turned out a little better. izak_
Those are fine. They are quite worn so it could be hard to get and exact ID. Nice jaw, btw Also, Welcome!
Fossildude19
Welcome to the Forum. Certainly looks like some sort of mammal tooth/jaw section. Thanks for the better pictures. Maybe @jpc will have some ideas? 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." jpc
It is definitely a mammalian upper jaw fragment. The purple rock covering it is very typical of Willwood Fm fossils. There isn't much of the teeth left, and that is how these things are identified, but I will make a semi-educated guess and say it is and early perrisodactyl. A horse/rhino relative, and I am saying more rhino, cuz it is not horse. I would have to look up my Wasatchian perrisodactyls to say much more.
