Roger, the more of these exquisite specimens you show prepped, the more I can appreciate the extent of your success. Any one of those beauties would be a worthwhile day for me. Those inner whorls are awesome and so beautifully exposed. Superb prep work as usual Roger. Congratulations and thank you for sharing.

So. Here come the next ones. This time with some before and after photos again. The first one I call an ammonite boat, at least it looks like one with the missing part of the outer whorls. It's a good size with 16cm. diameter. First the before.

Homeoplanulites sp.

The next one, a Macrocephalites, could have been a boat too, but it wasn't all that well preserved. However, there's an object perched on it which I can't classify. It could be a crinoid holdfast, but I've never seen any signs of crinoids at this site, which is why I've just sent off a search query to someone who might know.

The last one for today is another Homeoplanulites sp.

Roger, you really are an artist!!!  To be able to uncover such beautiful specimens from chunks of rock must take amazing skill - well done and thanks for sharing!

:blush:Aw shucks. It certainly does help to have the right tools at any rate.

I just heard back from my befriended paleontologist, who confirmed that the mystery object is indeed a Millericrinus sp. crinoid holdfast. He has also never seen anything like it in the entire formation, let alone the zone. Looks like I've found another rarity :megdance:

Well, I finally got the rest of them done today and finished off some little jewels. I often have fun with these little guys by uncovering the septal walls with the abrader. The first 3 I left on matrix pedestals. They range in diameter from 3.5 - 4,5cm. The largest of the smaller ones in the last photos measures 3.5cm. 8a.thumb.jpg.84dc00bd78f0f7940e8fb5fd3aba2aad.jpg

:) Thanks for the reminder. Believe it or not, I actually thought of it myself and put it on my "take with me" pile already.

Thanks Jim. I just got back. Made some good finds again and even remembered to take my camera this time. I'll start a new thread with a report on the day later on.
