I uncovered this strange formation down in the water of Post Oak Creek in Sherman, Texas. Any ideas of what it may be?

This looks geological, to me, rather than fossil 

I am, admittedly, unfamiliar with your area, however. 

Wait for some local opinions. ;)

You can find septarian concretions in the Post Oak so this may be a heavily worn one. If you live in the DFW area you might bring it to the Dallas Paleontological Society meeting Wednesday so some actual geologists can have a closer look. Details here:

There will be real paleontologists present too but most of us are amateurs and the public is welcome.
