minnbuckeye
Raggedy Man created a post yesterday showing a great example of what is found in SW Wisconsin. Take a look at it. It is spectacular! I visited the area about a month ago and did not find as nice of finds, so sheepish about posting now. But here goes: 1. examples of gastropods These tiny specimens I am thinking are gastropods. They were posted in the Fossil ID section: 2. Cephalopod mix:
minnbuckeye
3. The lowly brachiopod mix:
minnbuckeye
4. Trilobits: This area is full of trilobite pieces from many different species. It occasionally gives up a wonderful specimen as Raggedy Man's post shows. .
minnbuckeye
I am not sure if these are trilobite bits or not:

minnbuckeye
Again, not completely sure if these are trilobite parts:
Raggedy Man
Gonna make this guy blush..rofl! You ever get that Dolichoharpes reticulata prepped? That sir was amazing that you found that your first time in the Platteville. Should be coming up in September some time. ...I'm back.
minnbuckeye
Finally, I did find 2 complete trilobites The first one is unimpressive except it was found in in complete sandstone. I just saw it peeking out. It is a roller, details are lacking. The second one has better detail!

Looks like you did well - thanks for the pictures. 3 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Pumpkinhead
1 hour ago, minnbuckeye said: Again, not completely sure if these are trilobite parts: I agree with Fossildude19. The top ones look like they may be from Ceraurus or a similar trilobite.
RJB
Some very small fossils so you wont need a lot of room for display? Some very interesting and busy matrix with some very nice color contrasts! I cant tell by your pictures, but looks to be some rather soft matrix? RB

Its soft after its weathered for 3-4 months and thats only for the shale layers. The bluish dolomitic limestone or Platteville limestone is quite hard. Many of the old buildings in the area tout this as decore. The blue color is amazing and allows for the fossils to "pop". Its a challenging area to hunt, but the rewards are great if you're the lucky one. ...I'm back.

JimB88
Good stuff you found..the cephs are amazing! Nice Leperditia ostracod under the penny on the top right. I like ostracods in the Ordovician..they were giants!
fossilized6s
Nice Wisconsin material. We'll have to get together sometime. Maybe out by Bev's for some hunting. ~Charlie~ "There are those that look at things the way they are, and ask why.....i dream of things that never were, and ask why not?" ~RFK ->Get your Mosasaur print ->How to spot a fake Trilobite ->How to identify a CONCRETION from a DINOSAUR EGG

You likely will get trilobite parts in the matrix, if that is OK. 6 hours ago, fossilized6s said: Nice Wisconsin material. We'll have to get together sometime. Maybe out by Bev's for some hunting. Collecting is easier here than in Florida where you make me sling scoop after scoop of sand and fossils into your screens. Florida hunting with you is similar to those in the movie "Blood Diamond. At least you let me keep one fossil per hour of slaving!!!
fossilized6s
Oh wow! What a bug! Beautiful and rare piece. Makes one almost want to forget about responsibilities and go for a hunt right now!
