What kind of fossil is this, if it is one at all?

I found this rock at Brick New Jersey Beach right on the seashore, what kind of fossil is this, could someone please help? Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum. :)

 

Looks like it might be a gastropod, or oyster steinkern, with some shell material adhering. 

Not enough there to tell me what. 

Maybe one of the more local members will chime in.

Also, if you don't mind me asking, what part would those funky designed white parts on the sides be, of the fossil, if they have any special name or something? Thanks again!

Looks like You answered Your own question. (sort of any ways.)

It may not be the actual shell material as most fossils have been altered from their original material.

The gray parts are the matrix (rock) that the fossil shell is in.
