Were the bones already so severely fractured in the matrix or did they break upon removal? If they broke upon removal, there's a process that you can employ that will help reduce breakage.

The rock is not very hard, it's miocenic. You can simply remove it with an elettric vibroincisor.

 The bones were already  fractured in the matrix.
