Help with Identification

Can someone please help me figure out what this is? I found it a couple days ago at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas, California. I am not a fossil collector, I was just taking a walk, picking up shells and I came across it. I tried to get some idea by searching online. But, I couldn't find anything like it.

Im not sure, but it looks like a piece of very worn seashell?

Thank you both! It looks to me like there's marrow down the middle of it, But, like I said, I really don't know anything about this stuff. It's such an odd shape and looks like it broke off something at the base. It's kind of creepy looking.

I think this is a piece of a gastropod shell, with part of the inner (parietal) wall inside the curve of the "C". Picture of a conch showing the relevant section in the right hand side:

That's my finger I lost a few years ago to a shark. Obviously spat out because of the vile tast somewhere and then dried out.
