Florida, 22/07/2017 - my best hunt ever!

fossiling

We had great fun today when we went fossil hunting today!

In the morning, we went to the fort drum crystal mine to search for clam fossils. We found several clams and a huge gastropod which needs prepping. The nice owner, Eddy, told me how to cut the gastropod to expose the crystals. He also gave me and my sister gifts.

Next we went to Venice beach to search for shark teeth. We found 56 ray plates, 26 shark teeth, 1 ray barb and 6 unknown. I will be posting threads in the ID section later.IMG-20170722-WA0031.thumb.jpeg.efc3f39ea8644138bada1821919c8dcf.jpeg

Nice finds! I hope you can successfully identify all your specimen!

I am pleased to hear about new hunters tapping the fossil richness of Florida. Your colorful shark tooth is most likely a worn Negaprion brevirostris (Lemon Shark).

That is great! Congrats! Crystallized fossils are the best of both worlds.
