Taxidermydream
Hiya I just found this tooth it is 4cm long on the earth of a house Reno. My guess was a bison but we are in Toronto Canada not many bison here. How old is it? What mammal is it? Please help solve the mystery
Doctor Mud
Welcome to the forum. I can't tell you what mammal this tooth came from, but an ID might help pin down its age. If for example it's an extinct or locally absent species you might be able to figure out a ballpark age. That is if it hasn't been transported there by people. Apart from radiocarbon dating, it can be hard to pin it down further unless it is in context with artifacts of a known period for example. Look forward to an ID from one of our experts. jcbshark
Looks bovid to me, let's see what others say Every once in a great while it's not just a big rock down there!
Harry Pristis
Definitely bovid, but the images are not adequate to determine which bovid. Teeth typically require perpendicular views of left, right, and occlusal surfaces. http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest
