Jrh38654
I went on my very first fossil hunt today in northern Mississippi. I was excited to find fossils, but I am having trouble identifying the following 4. Thank you in advance, I cannot wait to learn more about this wonderful hobby. ynot
Welcome to TFF! 1 look like oyster shell fragments. 2 snail steinkern (internal cst). 3 echinoderm fragment. 4 squalicorax. Crow shark tooth. 2 Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." My Fossil collection - My Mineral collection My favorite thread on TFF. fifbrindacier
I agree that 2 is an internal cast of gasteropod and 4 a shark tooth. I'm not sure about 1 and 3. Could you send us photos of their other side ? "On ne voit bien que par le coeur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux." In all fairness it does look like an echinoderm fragment. Jrh38654
Thank you all so much for helping me, I have one more item from that day, I'm not sure if it is fossil or modern, I found probably 20 of them, but this was the most complete. It is around 1.5" in diameter. Same location.
Carl
The complete shell you posted looks like Pycnodonte and the two layered fragements you initially posted are almost certainly Exogyra.
