My son found this while picking peas from the garden last year. It is 2" long 5/8"wide and 3/8" thick. He found it just south of Natchez ms. Was told it could be a bear tooth from a local fossil hunter.

Can You post pictures from other angles?

Tip, base and back, please.

Does not look like a bear tooth.

You may have been to close.

Also- holding an object while trying to photograph it can cause a blur. try to take the picture while it is set on a solid base/surface.

No idea what this is, but it does appear to be a mammal tooth. One possibility is a sea cow tusk. I cannot speak for tusk-like teeth in land mammals. Definitely not from a carnivore, and doesn't really resemble any cetaceans.

Jacob,

Fantastic fossil find .  Thanks for sharing.  Your son's find is EXTREMELY rare or it would have been identified already by the numerous fossil experts on this site.

As Boesse stated , one candidate might be Sea cow tusk.  Others might be juvenile/baby Rhino or Mastodon tusk. A photo of a Dugong tusk http://funwithnature.blogspot.com/2011/04/dugong-ivory-at-changi-beach.html

Enjoy your treasure. You might consider showing a photo to the chief scientist of vertebrae Paleontology at a local University.

I am curious and with watch this thread with interest.
