abctriplets
Also in the Hell Creek Formation in Montana, we found this interesting bone. It was in two large pieces, and then I later attached two smaller pieces to it. I had shown it to another paleontologist (before it was cleaned and glued together), and he suggested maybe mandible end, or another condyle. To me, it has a femur like quality..... Any suggestions as to what this is, and what it might be from? I'm leaning towards triceratops, based on odds.....
Miocene_Mason
@Troodon i can see femur head, can't tell you what dinosaur though. “...whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been and are being evolved.” ~ Charles Darwin Happy hunting, Mason
darrow
The articulated end of a rib? The second picture is probably bison but similar morphology...
abctriplets
Quote The articulated end of a rib? But would it have those "grooves" on the end? I imagine that'd be for blood vessels and such. And in my mind, younger bones might have them more visible before the cartilage is fused to the end? But again...I don't know much about this

Well, it's rock, and I've had 2 paleontologists hold it, so I know it's not modern. Or are you saying more recent than the Hell Creek layer? LordTrilobite
Well I say that because it seems quite clean with not a lot of sediment in the cancelous bone. But of course that could just be a fairly recent break instead of the whole thing being recent. Olof Moleman AKA Lord Trilobite

Yeah, I think this was a recent break, as we thought it was part of something that was excavated out of the wall - there was evidence of someone there before us (leftover foil, fresh digging), and we wondered if they had forgotten this part behind. It'd be sad if it went to a much larger bone, and now is forever separated. I did get the two main chunks glued together, and added 2 smaller bits that were found nearby.
