ShadyW Posted February 3, 2008 Share Posted February 3, 2008 I'm a brand-newbie here, and I hoped that some of you experts could help me identify a couple of vertebrae from recent trips to the North Sulfur River? They were found within a few yards of each other, but I'm assuming they're from very different beasts altogether. The one on the right seems to be a Mossasaur vertebra, but what about the one on the left? I'd really appreciate any suggestions! Sorry if this isn't the best way to post images - I'm still working my way around this board's interface! Every complex scientific problem has an elegant and simple solution... and it is wrong. They're both from the North Sulfur River, just between Ladonia and Bug Tussle. Happily, I'd just discovered your gallery, Bowkill, and was about to post a message saying that the one on the left looked just like your Xiphactinus vertebrae! In fact, that would fit perfectly with all the Xiphactinus teeth I've found in the area. Somehow I never put two and two together! D'oh! I have a few fossils in my Texas collection that I'd love some help with (odd vertebrae, teeth and such), plus a few nice finds from the Bracklesham Bay clay in England (where I'm from) including a beautifully preserved stingray barb.
